Becoming a Tobacco-Free Pharmacy

In an effort to promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Massachusetts, the MASSACHUSETTS PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION, in cooperation with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, is pleased to provide you with the Massachusetts Tobacco-Free Pharmacy program information. This site contains information and resources to aid in the process of becoming a tobacco-free pharmacy as well as materials for your use in providing tobacco cessation counseling to your patients. These materials have been designed to be reproduced and distributed to patients as part of your pharmacy's tobacco cessation counseling services.

The Massachusetts Tobacco-Free Pharmacy program will utilize the pharmacist's role as the most accessible health care professional, to provide appropriate counseling, support, information, and referrals directly to the patients that will benefit most from tobacco cessation. Secondly, the program will utilize resources and techniques aimed to provide step by step assistance to pharmacies desiring to become tobacco free. We are asking you to consider becoming tobacco free of your own free will and to provide additional support to your patients regarding the use of tobacco products.

We hope that you and your staff will find these materials to be an asset in your practice and that you will join with us to make the Massachusetts Tobacco-Free Pharmacy program a success. If you are currently tobacco free please contact our office at (781) 736-0101 or by email at mpha@channel1.com so that we can recognize your commitment to the public's health.
